Altitude Dialysis Training Center

Aurora, Colorado
Training Independence in Renal Care

Altitude Dialysis introduces a new model for renal care, providing patients with the tools, training, and support to perform dialysis at home. This 6,000-SF clinic combines clinical functionality with a home-like environment to support patient education and treatment. The facility includes 12 infusion bays, three training rooms, a nephrology clinic with two exam rooms, a dedicated equipment-cleaning room, administrative offices, and a welcoming waiting area. The project was prioritized by the City of Aurora due to its importance in providing safe care for at-risk patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Homeward Shift in Dialysis Care

The design of Altitude Dialysis was driven by the need to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Traditional in-clinic dialysis requires multiple hours per session and multiple visits per week, placing significant burdens on patients. By creating a supportive training environment for at-home dialysis, the clinic empowers patients and their families to take control of their care. MOA’s design team translated this educational mission into physical space, designing a clinical den that feels like a living room, with warm, natural colors, durable materials, and artwork that make the environment comfortable, inviting, and functional.

From Clinic to Home with Confidence

Altitude Dialysis allows patients to transition from clinic-based dialysis to home treatment safely and confidently, reducing travel time and disruption while improving health outcomes. The design fosters learning, independence, and comfort, demonstrating how healthcare environments can balance medical functionality with human-centered design. By providing a state-of-the-art prototype for patient-centered renal care, the clinic serves as a model for future dialysis facilities and elevates the standard of care within the community.
