Community College of Denver Clear Creek Building

Denver, Colorado
From Dormant Space to Campus Destination

Originally built in 1976 and acquired by the Community College of Denver in 2012, the Clear Creek Building had received only minor updates over the decades and remained largely unused since 2020. What began as a simple HVAC replacement evolved into a full-scale renovation, including interior remodeling, ADA upgrades, roof and window replacement, and major mechanical improvements. The building now serves as a hub for college leadership, administrative offices, and flexible event space, reactivating an architecturally significant campus asset.

Modern Function Rooted in Historic Design

Designed in the 1970s by Denver architect Marvin Hatami, the Clear Creek Building was described as “iconic architecture hiding in plain sight.” MOA ARCHITECTURE sought to honor that legacy while bringing the facility into the 21st century. Restoring original starburst light fixtures, improving air quality, and reconfiguring interior spaces allowed the building to retain its character while providing modern functionality. The redesign balances open and private office layouts, conference and reception areas, and flexible event space to support both day-to-day operations and community engagement.

A Renewed Hub for Campus Leadership and Community

With a total project cost of $10 million, the renovated Clear Creek Building now serves as a vibrant center for the Community College of Denver. High-efficiency, digitally controlled HVAC systems, upgraded filtration, and improved mechanical infrastructure enhance comfort and sustainability. The building supports the President’s Suite, Foundation, Marketing and Communications, and other administrative functions, while the first floor hosts graduations, events, and community gatherings. MOA’s design preserves the building’s architectural heritage while positioning it for decades of active use.
